Responsible Dog Ownership
Danesford is proud to promote responsible dog ownership for the benefit of the dogs, their owners, and the community.
The club has a number of widely experienced and qualified voluntary trainers. Only reward based methods of training are used, and trainers are regularly upgrading their qualifications and training skills.
Kennel Club Registered
Danesford (a non profit organisation) has been registered with the Kennel Club for 40 years and abides by the rules and code of conduct recommended by the Kennel Club including training techniques, insurance etc.
Dog Training Classes
Danesford runs regular organised dog training classes to promote responsible dog ownership and care. These classes take place throughout the year. Courses are arranged to cater for all dogs, from basic puppy training through Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme tests right through to competition obedience classes. See "TRAINING "
Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme
The Kennel club good citizen scheme promotes responsible dog ownership. There are classes for the 4 standards at Danesford (Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold). In fact Danesford can be proud that over the years they have helped local dog owners achieve these recognised standards, but more importantly encourage responsible dog ownership within the local society. Danesford has helped over 550 handlers achieve awards in all levels of the scheme. The club has trainers and examiners for The Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme.
Young Kennel Club
Danesford is keen to encourage young handlers. We actively encourage younger people to attend classes with a responsible adult and learn how to handle dogs in a responsible safe and enjoyable way. One of our handlers has qualified for Crufts every year since 2012.
Supporting the Local Community
The club works with a number of local organisations and tries to encourage all aspects of responsible dog ownership. These functions include talk evenings, for example by local vets Bluehouse, and other individuals and organisations. Many of these events are used to raise funds for charity. Danesford has donated over £5,000 to local animal charities this is additional to the support given in the way of demonstrations at open days, Congleton Carnival, and collections of food etc for dog re-homing charities
Fun for dogs and owners
Responsible dog ownership is the heart of the club, and encouraging dog and owner to have the best possible relationship and fun. For the more enthusiastic owner you could even try Competition Obedience, Breed Showing, Working Trials, Agility, Rally and Crufts.
Club members have been successful in Competition Obedience and have qualified for Crufts in a number of classes, and won the dog obedience class outright at Crufts in 1993.
Club members participate in Crufts every year. From Breed Showing to Companion Dog. From Breed Judging to Kennel Club displays. From Understanding Dogs participation to Kennel Club stand support, and of course Obedience.
There are members who compete in Competition obedience, Breed shows, Working Trials, Agility, Heel work to Music and Rally.
There are trainers and members who judge at obedience shows and breed shows including Crufts. Members even travel overseas to judging appointments. There are dogs that compete and win in Breed shows, agility and working trials, Some dogs compete in 2 or 3 disciplines, proving that they don’t have to be a one trick pony. Most of all we have pet dogs that their owners just love the way they are. Whatever you choose, your dog will be a happier pet through training.
So, if you are interested in becoming a more responsible dog owner, having fun with like minded people or even have a craving to compete at Crufts and beyond, give Danesford a try. This small but friendly club has a lot to offer. We look forward to welcoming you (and your dog) to Danesford Obedience Dog Training Club.
